Workshop Overview

Join us for a hands-on photography experience along one of England’s most dramatic coastlines. This workshop is designed to strengthen your landscape photography skills with a focus on composition, light, and storytelling through imagery.

We’ll drive between locations to maximise shooting time and take full advantage of the changing light throughout the afternoon and into sunset. The session is landscape-focused, but if puffins and gannets are in season, we may include a visit to Bempton Cliffs for those interested in capturing seabirds in a scenic setting.

📍 Flamborough Head

We begin at Flamborough Head, exploring cliff-top perspectives, chalk formations, and wide open views of the North Sea. You’ll learn to work with midday light, control exposure in high-contrast environments, and find strong compositions using natural lines and coastal textures.

We’ll also cover how to approach scenes creatively even under less dramatic lighting — a key skill for any outdoor photographer.

📍 Thornwick Bay

Next, we head to Thornwick Bay, where a striking sea arch and layered rock formations dominate the view. This is a perfect location for minimalist compositions and experimenting with long exposures if conditions allow.

You’ll be encouraged to use ND filters (if available), explore foreground elements, and shoot from varied heights to change perspective and impact.

📍 North Landing

We finish our core shoot at North Landing — a picturesque cove with fishing boats, tide pools, and curved chalk cliffs. This area lends itself to more intimate compositions, using textures, water movement, and reflective light to tell a story within the frame.

Depending on tide and weather, we’ll explore both high viewpoints and beach-level shooting opportunities.

📍 Optional: Bempton Cliffs (Seasonal)

If visiting during puffin and gannet season (typically April to July), an optional visit to Bempton Cliffs RSPB Reserve offers the chance to photograph seabirds in a spectacular cliffside setting. While wildlife is not the workshop’s main focus, this stop adds variety and an opportunity to work with longer lenses and motion techniques.
