About This Workshop
The Faroe Islands are more than a destination — they are a masterclass in light, weather, and patience. Wind-sculpted cliffs, quiet villages, and skies that shift from storm-grey to golden in minutes create a landscape that demands presence, not just a camera.
This is not a rushed photo tour where you snap a frame and move on. It is a hands-on creative retreat for landscape photographers and visual storytellers — whether you are refining technical mastery or learning to capture the feeling of a place. We move at the islands’ pace: waiting for mist to lift, watching light spill across fjords, and chasing the moments that make every frame feel earned.
We operate fully in line with Faroese regulations: Thomas Vikre leads all on-island guiding as a licensed local specialist, supported by photographer Simon Waldram to deliver expert creative tuition throughout your week.

We have curated a route that balances iconic landmarks with quiet, little-known spots — timed for the best light and conditions:
Gásadalur: The iconic village and Múlafossur waterfall tumbling 30m straight into the Atlantic — shoot at sunrise, blue hour, or when storm swells frame the falls
Tjørnuvík: Jet-black sand, crashing surf, and the legendary sea stacks Risin og Kellingin — frame them against sunset, moody clouds, or moonlight
Saksun: A sheltered valley where the sea meets a freshwater lagoon, surrounded by rolling hills and traditional homes — perfect for long exposures and intimate detail shots
Kallur Lighthouse: A dramatic cliff-edge landmark on Kalsoy island — reachable by ferry and a gentle hike, offering panoramic views across the archipelago
Drangarnir Sea Arch: An exclusive private boat trip to this towering natural formation — access only possible by sea, with dedicated time to shoot from every angle
Remote Ridges & Passes: Off-the-beaten-path locations for sweeping scale, solitude, and the raw power of North Atlantic weather
After dark: When skies clear, we will head out for night photography — capturing the Milky Way arching over fjords, the aurora borealis when solar activity aligns, and meteor trails against pitch-black horizons. This is not an astrophotography course — but we will help you be ready when the sky puts on a show.
Your Accommodation
You will stay in a spacious Faroese house — comfortable, well-located, and set up perfectly for our group. Every guest has their own private room, with shared communal areas to relax, review your shots, and share stories each evening after a day in the field.
What You Will Learn
Instruction is adaptive, practical, and focused on your growth as a photographer:
Mastering light and exposure: Metering, dynamic range, and reading shifting weather to get the shot in any condition
Composition with intent: Moving beyond “pretty views” to create balanced, emotive images that tell a story
Advanced techniques: Bracketing, exposure blending, long exposures for water and movement
Drone photography: Legal requirements, safe flying in wind and coastal terrain, and using drones to add scale and perspective responsibly
Creative workflow: Planning your shoot, working with changing conditions, and making confident creative decisions
Editing and storytelling: Guidance on post-processing to match the mood of your shots, and how to build a cohesive portfolio from your week
You will receive dedicated support from both guides throughout — Thomas sharing deep local knowledge and access, and Simon helping you refine your style and technical skill.
Recommended Gear
Camera, Optics & Filters
DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual control
Wide-angle lens (16–35mm f/2.8 or faster recommended)
Telephoto lens (70–200mm or similar) for isolating details and compressing landscapes
Essential filters: Circular Polariser (to cut glare and deepen colour), Neutral Density (for smooth water and long exposures), and Graduated ND (to balance bright skies and dark land)
Spare batteries and memory cards (cold weather drains power fast)

Sturdy, weather-sealed tripod
Remote shutter release / intervalometer

Practical Information
Arrival & Start: Please book your flight to arrive at Vágar Airport (FAE) on 4 October 2027. We will meet you at the airport, transfer you straight to your accommodation, and head out for our first shoot that very evening — conditions permitting, we will make the most of whatever light the sky offers right away.
Departure: Any time on 12 October 2027
Meals: Not included — the house has full kitchen facilities, and we will provide recommendations for local cafés and restaurants
Safety & Compliance: All activities are led in full accordance with Faroese laws, access rules, and wildlife protection guidelines. We monitor weather and sea conditions daily — all plans adapt to keep everyone safe and shooting responsibly
